MKV File Converter is a small, easy and free converter for MKV files. It converts MKV videos to MP4 and AVI formats, or other video formats to MKV. The interface is simple and easy to use.

Its use is as you may have guessed: choose conversion type, set video quality, select a source file. The program automatically prompts an output file name, which you can change. Click “Convert” to start. During conversion the program displays progress status in a bar.

For MP4 (MPEG-4), the most popular video format, conversion supports three quality options: Fast, Normal and Best. Fast “Copies” video data from the MKV container to MP4, audio data are re-encoded as AAC.

In normal mode video and audio data are re-encoded, the output maybe smaller but not as clear as the source file. In “best” mode, video bit-rate is the same with your source, the program tries to keep the best video quality, and the output file will be larger.
