Edit plain text with auto completion, HTML, a project manager, with RJ TextEd

RJ TextEd is a unicode source and text editor, perhaps the only free editor that goes pretty close to the functionality of UltraEdit, and sometimes is even better!

RJ TextEd supports unicode (with automatic detection), syntax highlighting, code folding, HTML editing with integrated preview, spell checking, auto completion, HTML validation, templates and more. The program also includes support for Topstyle Lite CSS editor, has a dual pane file commander, as well as an FTP client.

Main features: Auto completion. Code folding. Column mode. Handles both ASCII and binary files. Html wizards. Use TopStyle Lite as your CSS editor if installed. FTP client with synchronization. File explorer, text clips, code explorer, project manager… Convert between code pages, Unicode formats and text formats. Unicode and ANSI code page detection. Open/Save UTF-8 encoded files without a signature (BOM). Unicode file paths and file names. Html validation, format and repair. Tools available like syntax editor, color picker, charmap…

Some inconveniences exist, but of a kind that not anyone will be annoyed. Personally I don’t like the Open dialogue, which is full of unnecessary (for me) options. I was also surprised that I had to define a shortcut key for such a common command as “close file”. It is nice that shortcut keys can be customized, but the most common should have a default configuration.
