Remove blur effects from the Windows lock screen

So, you have this really cool wallpaper for your lock screen and you feel it’s a shame that you cannot see it, since Windows decided to apply this blur effect. The blur effect on the Windows Lock Screen grabs your attention, helps you to concentrate on unlock steps, etc. Do we really need this help?

If you prefer not to enjoy this blur effect on your Lock Screen, it’s easy to get rid of it, if you are a little familiar with the Registry editor. (Note that disabling the transparency effects at the Windows Settings > Personalize > Colors, will disable all effects, even in the taskbar and Start menu)

Open the registry editor and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows

Check the Windows Sub-folder at the left. If there is already there a “System” key open it, otherwise right click the “Windows” folder and select the “New key” option to create a “System” key. Then click on it and the right side of the editor, right click on a blank space to select the option of a new DWORD value. Give to your new value the name DisableAcrylicBackgroundOnLogon and double click on it to modify it. Instead of 0 type 1.

That’s it! The blur effect gives a more professional and modern look by “unifying” the system elements, the textboxes, icons, etc. If you prefer this look, just change the above setting to 0, to let the blur effect come to life again. Enjoy!
