If instead of executing BAT files Windows asks to choose default program

If a program, usually a text editor, broke file associations and you are unable to run BAT (windows batch) files,

copy and paste the following code into your notepad, save it with a .reg extension (e.g. fixbat.reg)

and run it to restore Windows file associations for BAT files.

It works at least on Windows 7 and newer.
