It happened to me recently, VLC suddenly lost its voice! It was not absolutely silent, only too weak. The problem is easily solved, you don’t have to re-install VLC or change its configuration.

I recalled that recently I uninstalled the Realtek High Definition audio driver of my motherboard, guessing that it was not necessary. Wrong guess!

This caused the volume problem, which was solved immediately after I installed the driver again. Even if you don’t remember uninstalling your driver, you can install it again, you have nothing to lose, and most probably your PC will get its volume back.
