How to edit the Windows HOSTS file

You may find it difficult to edit your HOSTS file on newer Windows, when you try to add directions to prevent certain programs from connecting to the internet.

The file may even disappear completely, if you try to edit and save it, even if you have Administrator rights.

Here is what you can do in order to edit the HOSTS file. Go to /Windows/System32/Drivers/etc and copy the HOSTS file to your Desktop. Open this Desktop copy to your Notepad and make all necessary changes. Save and close the file, then copy and paste it to its original location.

Windows will ask for Administrator permission and the changed HOSTS file will replace successfully the original. Enjoy!
