What if your keyboard repeats a keystroke indefinitely?

It may happen a few times only in a day, when my keyboard repeats a keystroke until I press escape or some other key. What is the cause of this weird problem? I was going mad, not only for the annoyance, but also for the risk. In sensitive tasks, a continuous delete, for example, could cause damages difficult or even impossible to repair. If you happen to do serious things with your PC, and your keyboard won’t behave, first of all stop using it, protect yourself and be safe than sorry!

I have a sort of a collection of keyboards, so I replaced the problematic one with some other, and the problem disappeared. The keyboard with the repeat problem was wireless. Is perhaps the keystroke repeat problem a consequence of a bad connection? How could I know? Fortunately, in my case, the repeating keyboard provided also the option of a wired connection, when you need to charge its battery! So I connected it to the PC with its wire, although the battery did not need to be charged. And the magic occurred! The repeat problem was gone! I spent the whole day using it as a wired keyboard, and everything was fine.

What was the problem with the wireless connection? Did I need some drivers or firmware updates? If yes, wouldn’t the keyboard’s manual warn me so? I had to test this anyway. So I connected the keyboard’s receiver to a USB wire that belonged to a wireless mouse I wasn’t using, and then I connected the wire to a USB port at the back of my PC instead of at the front. Perhaps I should have first changed only ports, to make sure that it was not a port problem, but anyway, using a wire that reached the top of my desk, right where my mouse’s wire was, I minimized the distance between the keyboard and its receiver, and the problem was gone. The keyboard functioned perfectly, as if the connection was not wireless. Now let’s give some more food to thought!

My keyboard offers also bluetooth connection. This cannot be subject to experiments, and it had the same problem of keystroke repeats. If I had only the option of the bluetooth connection, the keyboard would be just useless, which is the case with another keyboard of mine suffering from the same repeat problem, a bluetooth keyboard for my Surface Pro laptop / tablet!

Is there anything common between the two problematic keyboards? Perhaps it’s only a coincidence, but both are Chinese! I use wireless keyboards all the time, and only with these two keyboards I had the wireless connection problem of keystroke repeats, a problem, unfortunately, that cannot be solved in the case of the Surface Pro, because it offers only the bluetooth connection.

At least I solved the problem of my desktop keyboard, as for the Surface, I still have its own black keyboard, not as pretty as the blue Chinese, but functioning without problems, not even needing bluetooth. Microsoft too provides various colors, but they are expensive.
