Winamp supports playback of Windows Media Video and Nullsoft Streaming Video.
For MPEG Video, AVI and other unsupported video types, Winamp uses Microsoft’s DirectShow API for playback.
5.1 Surround sound is supported where formats and decoders allow. Combined with specialized plugins such as the Kernel Streaming Plugin, Winamp can be used as a source of Hi End sound.
Winamp’s interface may seem outdated, but if you use the ClassicPro plugin with a skin like U2 Reloaded, it becomes pretty modern!
