LTspice is a free and powerful SPICE simulation program that will help test analog circuits. The program provides also macromodels for a multitude of devices, amplifiers, regulators and more.
A few minutes are enough to examine waveforms for a switching regulator. To edit a circuit you can use capacitors, resistors, wires, etc included in the components collection of LTspice. Right click an element to configure it.

You can integrate in your design MOSFET components having results when you value your circuit leaving intact your waveforms. Compile and simulate to test your circuit or switching regulator. The program lets you calculate energy used and wasted in complex systems, even give you details of the efficiency you achieved and an estimate of the cost.
