Hotspot Shield creates a virtual private network (VPN) between your computer or iPhone and its Internet gateway. This impenetrable tunnel prevents snoopers and hackers from viewing your email, instant messages, credit card information or anything else you send over the network. On a network that limits the use of certain applications (such as Skype), the VPN can give you unfettered access. It will also work with your wired connection as an extra layer of security.
