Save – Export Microsoft IntelliType keyboard configuration settings

You may have spent a lot of time to assign your own custom tasks to various keys on your Microsoft Keyboard using the IntelliType software, only to find out that IntelliType does not provide an option of saving / exporting your configuration. I’ve searched for a freeware that would do that job, but without success.

For the moment it seems that the only way to backup your keyboard / intellitype configuration is to export these settings from the registry.

Open your registry editor (type regedit at the Win+R box or at Start Menu search) and go to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\IntelliType Pro

You can save the whole IntelliType Pro branch, or just “EventMapping” and “ModelSpecific”

If you want to restore this configuration after a fresh Windows install, first enter your backup file to the registry, and after that install the IntelliType Pro software, otherwise you might need to install IntelliType twice.
