Desk Topmost is a free application that will let your desktop float at the top of all other windows, so that you can reach (click etc) desktop icons without the need to minize your open programs.

Usually we press “Win+D” or the “Show Desktop” button on the Windows Taskbar to access desktop icons.

This way introduces some delay, the progress will need a few seconds if a lot of programs or folders are open, and afterwards you can’t return immediately to the program or folder you had been working on before.
